About Statements to Sheets

Jeff Gough

Founder, Cascade Foundry LLC

Statements to Sheets began as a one-off utility I built for a friend who needed to import a large stack of physical, printed bank statements into QuickBooks. His bookkeeping had been thin for a while — more than five years of mixed personal and business expenses that needed to be untangled. Getting those transactions into a usable format was the first hurdle.

We ended up running to FedEx to scan everything into PDF format, and then the real work began. I wrote a Python script specific to his bank's statement format and converted 300+ pages into CSV — something that would have taken days to do by hand.

A few months later, it occurred to me: if one business owner had this problem, plenty of others probably did too. I decided to turn the script into a hosted SaaS product. I'd built a lot of small utilities before, but never deployed anything into the wild. My initial attempts to host on GCP hit roadblocks, and I shelved the project for a while out of frustration.

Later in the year, with a new baby on the way, I knew I needed to get something off the ground — and fast. Newer AI tools like Claude accelerated the process significantly, helping with the boilerplate work of authentication, infrastructure, hosting, and payment setup that had slowed me down before. I launched the site in November 2025, just in time for our son to be born.

During paternity leave, I kept building. What started as a bank statement converter expanded into other financial document types — invoices, receipts, tabular reports. I added AI-powered post-processing validation to catch extraction errors, OCR for scanned documents, column boundary adjustments for tricky layouts, and smart parsing features for extra cleanup. The goal throughout has been the same: a secure, dependable tool that works the way you'd expect it to, every time.

Cascade Foundry — The Beginning of Something Bigger

Statements to Sheets is the first product under Cascade Foundry LLC, a software company I founded to build practical, security-focused tools for professionals and small businesses. The name reflects the idea of building things that flow — utilities that remove friction from real workflows rather than adding to them.

This is just the start. The same philosophy that shaped Statements to Sheets — privacy-first design, transparent pricing, tools that solve specific problems well — will carry forward into whatever comes next. If you're a professional who's spent too long doing something manually that a well-built tool should handle, that's the problem I'm trying to solve.
